I've been out maybe 15 times since March. I have found a decent amount of coins, but all recent. Mostly tabs, foil and caps. I have yet to find anything to be super pumped about.

I have an Ace 250. I see those more expensive MD's, like the $750 range, that assign a number to what it's detecting. The higher the number, the "better" the find is. Have people found this to be more efficient?

Also, which regions of the metro do people have the best luck in?

I think the pricier detectors are better mainly because of ground cancelling and multi-frequency sampling.

The high end machines like the E-Trac/CTX and the V3i have the ability to get deeper because they were designed to filter mineralized ground based on ground noise and can either be adjusted manually (V3i) or automatically (E-Trac).  These two machines also send and receive 3 separate frequencies (ML's possibly more?) so the effects of EMI can be reduced by either adjusting the frequencies manually (V3i) or automatically (E-Trac/CTX). As stated, these machines send and receive 3 separate frequencies and can process them in such a way as to take the average of each signal or take the strongest signal return to come up with a target ID. Both machines have another advantage: they have manually adjustable recovery delay so that targets close together can sometimes be processed faster giving you a VDI for each target.

My opinion is that the parks have all been hunted so heavily that the benefit doesn't outweigh the cost of a high-end machine. I would buy a machine that operates at a frequency that fits what you mostly want to find and can take several coil sizes.  I really like my ML X-Terra 705 because it is lightweight, changes frequency based on the coil, there are many coils to choose from and it can take both concentric and DD coils.
