I hit the lake again last night so instead of making a new post, I decided to start a single post for my water finds.

Here is last night's take:

finds03312016.jpg

I also dug a clad dime.

Got back in the lake today.  I finally got some gold and got a really cool silver ring.  World War I Army Corps of Engineers!  Also got a 1919 S wheat and a junk religious pendant.

Got back in the water after work.  No silver and no rings.  Got me a couple more animals, a 1918 D buffalo and two wheats.

Here is today's water finds.  While it was nice to find some really old stuff, I have to say that I wasn't impressed with the quality.  I cooked the wheat and it was a 1917.

The lake gave up a little more today.  A 1929 S Buffalo, a wheat and an interesting and attractive ring.  I was told the ring was ugly by a guy who didn't find any rings at all today. Hmm.

I guess my whining about the quality of finds from this spot paid off.  I got back in the lake for a couple of hours and got me a 24k gold pendant, a sterling pendant, a beautiful ring, a Merc and 4 wheats. My buddy got an Indian head penny and gold signet ring.  I prefer coins with U.S. presidents on them and signet rings are boring.  They are usually plain and have no stones.

I went back to the lake after work for another 2 hours. I really wasn't feeling it tonight and couldn't seem concentrate.  Maybe that's why I got no rings.  A buddy got 5 rings, so I kinda felt left out.  I dug a silver quarter, a silver dime, a buffalo nickel and to my surprise a modern penny.  It shocked me good when I saw it in the scoop because new coins are almost impossible to find at this spot.  I honestly thought I had a gold coin for a few seconds. I know there must be one or two of those there.

I'm taking the next two evenings off, folks.  Going to wait until the weekend.  My wife is out of town, the house is a mess and my dog has been pretty lonely.

Wow. I knew there was good stuff to be found in lakes, but those are some really interesting finds for the shallows.

More finds from the lake.  Got me 4 more rings, one being 14k.  One of the rings may not even be a ring, but I called it a ring and it's mine so it's a ring. Five wheats, a round chunk that I'll cook and post if it's a token or something cool, and I dig my first pull tab at this spot! Pull tabs and clad are more rare than silver coins there so I say I got lucky!

Went with two buddies and one found a really nice gold fraternity ring and the other found a nice silver ring and a little lead canoe.  I'm hitting a new spot tomorrow.

Hit the other spot today.  Not a good day.  I got 2 clad dimes and a memorial.  The best find was a thin silver ring.

Went back to the lake after work for 2 hours.  Got me key, a 1941 nickel, an old bathing suit buckle, a tag and a gold signet ring!  Previously, I said I didn't like signet rings but they are actually pretty awesome!

Got back in the lake this morning for a quick hunt.  Got me a .925 skull ring!  It's also stamped 'silver' just in case the .925 wasn't clear enough for any doubters out there.  It's always nice to have plenty of evidence when stating the composition of a ring.

Got back in the water this afternoon for almost 3 hours.  Got me 2 old crosses, 4 silver dimes, what looks like a military badge of some kind that is stamped sterling, a plated signet ring, part of a junk ring, two keys, two wheats, another one of those bathing suit buckles and a really cool old top made of lead!

Update: the piece with the wings and prop is Air Force.  Probably part of a bracelet.  Maybe someone will find the rest of it.

I got back in the water after work and boy was it wet and wild.  I don't think I lasted but an hour and a half.

Got me an old belt buckle, another one of this bathing cap strap buckles (I just learned what they are), a couple religious pendants, a ring that looks to be plated and another piece of that army bracelet!  I'm chipping away at getting the whole bracelet!  Getting it one piece at a time like that Johnny Cash song. Might take a while.

I sure wanted to get a coin tonight, but just couldn't pull it off.  It was super windy and hard to hear targets.

Here is a link to an old ad for the bathing caps these buckles are from: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/22/ec/0c/22ec0ce34b80ab361904b7240cff1196.jpg

Hey my daughter is in town staying with us and she's not keeping the cutting board as clean as I'd like her to, so sorry for any spots!

Got back in the water again after work.  It was raining and the rain did not stop.  I didn't last long because it was also pretty cold.

Got me two old a junky rings (#25 and #26 for the year), another one of those bathing cap strap buckles, a wheat penny, a merc and a hair thingy.  Not a bad hunt, but I don't know if it was worth the rain and cold.

Got back in the lake for a two hour hunt this evening.

Got me two more of those bathing cap strap buckles (will be referred to as BCSB from now on, as I am tired of typing that out), another cross, another belt buckle, 1918 and 1919 S wheats, 1931 merc and an 18k wedding band!  The wedding band has two sets of initials engraved inside it with a wedding date of 6/27/1925!

Got home from the lake this morning and was getting ready to take a picture of the finds and Mary said 'Don't put those on the cutting board!  We prepare food on it!'

So, looks like my pictures will have a different background from now on!

Kind of a rough day at the lake today. Got me another one of those BCSB's, the first clad quarter I've dug at this spot, a strange cap of some sort painted blue, a plated ring and a Barber quarter!  The Barber saved the day for me.  Practically hardly any wear!  It's a 1903.

One of the biggest problems today was there were girls in boats.  I mean lots of girls and lots of boats.  And lots of girls in each boat.  And they all had long oars and were coming at me and making me move.  I missed a few good sounding targets because of the girls. I hope the girls are gone next time I'm there.  They cost me a lot of time dodging them.

Got back in the lake for about an hour and a half.  Super slow day like yesterday.  I'm getting the feeling that I need to move toward the center of the beach.  I've been concentrating exclusively on the left side in about 30 foot radius and the targets are thinning out.  Another barber saved the day!

Well, you know things have gotten bad when the only picture you have to post isn't of your finds.  Below is what my buddy found tonight at the lake. A gold ring and a Merc.  I'm happy for Mike and I know he worked for it.

On April 26th, Apple Computer Corporation posted their first quarter of revenue decline since 2003 and, to be frank, things are just about as ugly with my water hunting right now.  Tonight marked my second hunt where: I didn't get a silver coin; I didn't get a gold ring; I didn't get any animals; I didn't get any BCSB's; I didn't get any Wheats; I didn't any tokens; I didn't get any silver rings; I didn't get any crosses; I didn't get any belt buckles; and I didn't get any junk rings. I got skunked two hunts in a row.

Apple stock dropped to a little above $92 per share after posting those dismal quarterly results.  Down from a 52-week high of almost $133 per share.  I increased my position on AAPL by 50% the day after Apple posted in order to reduce the cost per share of my holdings and I have every reason to believe that I will be in better shape because of it. But I just don't know how I'm going to get past this water hunting slump.  It's not going to be as easy as buying more AAPL.

It took 5 solid hours of hunting the lake to get these goodies today, but at least I'm back to posting my own finds!

Got me a really crusty no-date Buffalo that wouldn't clean up all the way, 2 BCSB's, 2 junk rings and Karen's baby bracelet stamped sterling.  An okay day, but before I was finding this much stuff in less than two hours.  No, that's not a cutting board - it's the kitchen table.

Got back in the water tonight.  I had been a while!  I hit the part of the beach where all my recent water finds had been for about an hour and a half.  I had only found one brass button and was getting worried about getting skunked again ,so I ventured off to the center of the beach in hopes of finding something good.  I was there for about 20 minutes and nailed this gold signet ring!  What relief to not get skunked for the third time.

Apple stock is up $8 per share since I bought more and it looks like I have a new area to start pulling in the goodies!  Things are really looking up.

Below's the pic.  And, yes, that's the cutting board.  If gold isn't good enough for it, then I don't know what is.

Got back in the water this morning.  Got me a key, a cap to maybe a lipstick case, two wheats, a buffalo nickel, a Merc and a silver Rosie!
I'd've been happier if the hunt had been rounded out with a ring, but I won't complain.

Another tough day in the water.  Got me a 1903 Indian head and a junk ring.  There just weren't that many targets.

I sprayed the IH with Pam. You know, that cooking spray?

Got back in the water last night for a little over an hour and for almost two hours tonight.

Got me a clad quarter, a 1943 war nickle, 2 wheats (one is 1916, the other I'd have to clean up to see), two silver rings and a cutting-board-worthy gold cross!

The plain silver ring has engraving inside that says Fraternity and 1918.  It has other writing before Fraternity, but I haven't figured out what it says yet.

Got back in the lake for a few hours this morning.

Got me a snap, two close pins, a key, two BCSB's, a lead toy battle ship, two wheats, 3 junk rings, a junk heart pendant, 5 cent token, an 1893 V nickel (hardly any wear and the pointed nose variety) and a gold signet ring!

One of the guys got two gold rings today, but they weren't signet rings.  Neither one of them was.

I ended up hunting a different water spot after helping with a ring recovery for a lady.  Got me a junk ring that had me fooled for about 20 seconds!  This is ring number 45 for the year!

Detecting has been kind of rough for me lately.  One reason is that I tore my scoop.  Tearing a T-Rex scoop is definitely a drag but there's more to the story when you tear your R-Rex scoop.  You obviously have to send the scoop in for replacement, but you also have to get the wooden handle off; and that is no easy chore.  You must cut the thing off where it goes onto the scoop, drill the wood out as best as you can and then cut away the remaining wood.  You see, the wooden handle gets waterlogged and expands.

I ended up getting some help from a club member to get the extra wood out and I'm ready to mail the scoop in.  And this time they are mailing me two so I don't have to deal with my 7/16 holed backup scoop!  Enough about the scoop.

Another thing that has made detecting rough lately is I got a new detector.  It's a Garrett Infinium and since using it my finds have plummeted. The thing finds stuff fine but as far as anything decent goes, it will only find 1 nickel per hunt.  That's right.  It will find lipstick holders and BCSB's and other things and 1 nickel.  I've taken it out three times and ended up with three nickels: Buffalo, Buffalo, War. Enough about the new detector.

I got out scuba diving today.  Got me a junk bracelet, a cross stamped sterling and a silver ring!

Well, I'm officially back in business for wading!  I got my replacement scoop in the mail along with a bigger backup scoop so that I won't be down so long again.  Now it looks like the only equipment problem I have at the time is a worn out coil cover.

Got back in the water for a quick after work hunt. Got me a snap, a BCSB, a junk and crumbling brooch, a junk ring (ring #47 FTY), 1946 and 1925 wheats, a 1946 nickel and a 1940 dime (silver coin #17 FTY)!
